Course Description

Fracture repair is a frequently performed orthopedic procedure—but coding it can be complex and confusing. In this webinar, providers will learn key documentation points that will help them arrive at the appropriate procedure and diagnosis code. They will also learn strategies to navigate tricky global period modifier issues.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:-

  • Select the appropriate CPT® code for fracture care procedures, based on whether the procedure was open or closed and whether internal or external fixation was used
  • Select the correct ICD-10-CM fracture code and assign the appropriate 7th character for the stage of healing
  • Know the difference between an open fracture and open treatment of a fracture, and how these differences affect coding
  • Understand global period modifier problems that can arise for fracture cases—and how to solve them

Agenda:-

  • Review specific details that must be present in the physician’s note for the accurate procedure and ICD-10-CM coding
  • Discuss typical fracture types and locations and how they are usually coded
  • Compare acute and pathologic fractures and understand how each should be coded
  • Examine the different fixation types and how to identify them in the provider’s note
  • Explain the fracture global care package—what is included and what can be reported separately
  • Discuss typical fracture care scenarios and how they should be coded
